Robotics and automation, highly concentrated

May 28, 2025

  • The 360° view of automation and robotics
  • Full low-down on megatrends in AI and mobile robotics
  • munich_i Hightech Summit with visionaries from around the world

Do you want to feel the pulse of robotics and learn how robots think, feel, and act? In other words: Do you want to understand the entire world of automation and its impact on the global economy? Then you should come to Munich on June 24 to 27. Here, apart from the high-tech exhibits of around 770 exhibitors from 40 countries, the leading exhibition automatica also offers its visitors an extensive accompanying program highlighting all aspects of the key technology that is automation.

The innovative strength of today’s robotics and automation sector is unprecedented. Technology that used to cause a stir in universities or research facilities at best is now being developed to series production maturity at an incredible pace. Artificial intelligence, industrial metaverse, humanoids, or, a little closer to home, mobile robotics, digital twins, and no-code programming raise the question: How can someone with a mission of leading production facilities into the future get up to speed on the latest developments in this rapidly evolving field?

Anja Schneider, automatica Exhibition Director, has the answer: “Our versatile supporting program provides a 360° view of automation and robotics. It provides holistic information on the entire spectrum of trends, developments, and technologies. At automatica, anyone looking for an update will find a suitable offering in just the right format with a special focus on dialog and hands-on experiences.”

All automation trend topic are covered during the four trade fair days. The entire exhibition center is covered by a network of information hotspots offering a wide range of formats covering a diverse scope of topics: good planning is therefore essential. We have compiled some of the supporting program’s highlights to provide a rough overview:

Artificial Intelligence and Digitization

The topic of Artificial Intelligence and Digitization will become a critical factor for the viability of industrial production in the future. The interoperability of components and machines is a basic prerequisite for using digital twins, AI, and the industrial metaverse. Experts and organizations such as the OPC Foundation and umati outline current possibilities and how connectivity can be simplified even further at the Connected Machines special show in Hall B5.224.

Smart Maintenance+ in Hall B6.520 will prove that artificial intelligence is also going to make maintenance more efficient and sustainable. This vivid format features an exciting mix of real-world applications, product presentations, lectures, and workshops as it provides information on how future maintenance processes will ensure maximum uptime, minimize the TCO, and increase profits. One of the highlights: a virtual journey to the SAP power plant in the industrial metaverse that lets participants experience management solutions for optimized maintenance and service.

Hall A3.433 is the location of Photonics meets Robotics – a special show held across two trade fairs – presenting how the vision of self-learning production machinery and fully automated first-time-right (FTR) production is taking shape as artificial intelligence combines the most powerful aspects of photonics and robotics.

New: the guided ‘AI in products and production’ tours by VDMA R+A.

Mobile robotics and service robots

Megatrend number two is covered by Mobile Robots in Production: Mesh-Up in Hall B4.330. Here, visitors can experience how AGVs and AMRs are revolutionizing logistics and production. Live in action: a fleet of different mobile robots taking on transport and manipulation tasks in production logistics. Highlight: the orchestration of ten robots from eight different suppliers via a centralized control station enabled by the open VDA 5050 communication interface. It allows the vehicles to share the same travel paths—a real game changer for automation efforts in existing production facilities.

Even more robots are on the move in Hall A4.210. Latest-generation service robots show what they are capable of in the Service Robotics Arena. Whether industrial environments, hospitals, labs, hospitality, or construction sites – service robots advance into ever more fields of application and take over unpopular tasks from humans. Among the highlights: the humanoid G1 standing 1.30 meters tall and its robot dog Go2 from China live in action.

New at automatica: Focus Healthtech

Robots are taking healthcare environments by storm. They transplant hearts, work in cell and gene therapy, and support rehabilitation facilities and labs –automatica addresses this development with its new Healthtech focus. The MedtecLIVE Healthtech Pavilion in Hall A4.218 and the two-day MedtecSUMMIT bringing together medical experts, scientists, as well as representatives from industry and politics on June 25 and 26 in Hall B4.331 form the cornerstones of this trade fair campaign. And: The best industry solutions by exhibitors will be presented to visitors in guided tours conducted on a daily basis.

High-tech—as easy as it gets

Robotics and automation implementations can be a real productivity booster for SMEs. The TestZone: Robotics for SMEs in Hall A5.430 is an opportunity for visitors to experience how straightforward robot-powered automation has become and to try typical SME applications for themselves. In addition, 90-minute workshops held on June 27, 2025, are dedicated to constructive knowledge transfer between SMEs.

Domain leadership confirmed

Apart from these novelties, automatica also continues a large number of proven formats, of course. Anja Schneider comments: “A leading exhibition must also offer a top-notch supporting program that provides real added value through successful formats. 96 percent of visitors in 2023 confirmed the supporting program’s relevance and topicality. And we have outdone ourselves to once again meet the high expectations this year.”

A quick glance at the program confirms this. It shows proven formats such as the Machine Vision Pavilion, the Start-up Arena hosting the Odense Investor Summit, the AI.Society special show, and the Young Talent and Career Day on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Both a free visit to the automatica Forum and chargeable participation in the munich_i Hightech Summit are highly recommended to anyone interested in topics of the future. The research and industry elite, including visionaries from Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Nvidia, is going to put a spotlight on the future of AI-powered robotics at this world-class conference on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Exclusive B2B networking formats such as ‘Spotlight India‘ covering market opportunities in India and ‘automatica Innovation Bridge’ provide new accompaniments to the program. The latter is a pilot project presented in cooperation with UnternehmerTUM that has been conceived as a tech breakfast bringing together established industrial companies and leading investors.
