A new standard for data exchange: OPC Day Europe
The acclaimed OPC Foundation hosted once again their one-day OPC Day Europe conference at automatica in 2018. The declared goal was smooth data exchange between applications of different automation technology vendors.
The acclaimed OPC Foundation was a partner of automatica for the second time in a row and hosted their annual OPC Day Europe within the framework of the IT2Industry subject area.
Goal of the foundation: To establish OPC as a standardized software interface for data exchange between applications of different vendors in the industrial automation sector—and to support production process optimization efforts by providing smooth communication.
Being a global non-profit organization, the OPC Foundation coordinates the advancement of the OPC standard in cooperation with users, vendors, and researchers. The main tasks of the expert team include creation and maintenance of specifications, certification and conformity assessments for implementations, and cooperation with other standardization bodies.
The OPC Foundation was again contributed a joint stand in 2018, which was located in the IT2I area in hall B4. Companies associated with the OPC Foundation presented their products and services related to the industrial Internet of Things here.
According to Vice President Stefan Hoppe, the association took a conscious decision in favor of the IT2Industry event location at automatica:
“IT2Industry and the OPC Foundation have a common goal to find a common denominator for the various parties in IT and the industrial sector. Hence the automatica is an ideal opportunity for us to present the OPC standard as an interface to automation systems.”
