Autonomous driving is a megatrend in the industry. However, we haven’t seen the big breakthrough of autonomous cars on public streets yet. Even though many algorithms exist for individual subtasks of autonomous driving, such as image recognition. Setting up optimal, robust overall software remains a significant challenge. Our research targets this aspect: We want to create a fully autonomous software stack capable of running on public roads. Therefore, we have an autonomous research vehicle equipped with extensive sensor technology and high-performance computers to deploy and test the developed software.
